Festive Fun Boxing Gym Style!

Professional Boxer vs New Blood!

This is a little light relief. Andrew Colquhoun is an up-and-coming professional boxer. I have known Andrew for a long time now having coached him through many years as an amateur. Being the type of lad Andrew is he spends a good deal of his time working with the youngsters in the amateur boxing club where he learned his trade.

Suffice it to say he has his own unique style of working with the kids, built around a staple of poking fun at them pretty much constantly. However, he does this very much tongue-in-cheek and imparts some really smart knowledge to the boxers.

On 20th December 2013, Andrew fulfilled a promise to the kids class in the boxing club in that he would give them the opportunity to spar him, en masse! They jumped at the chance to pummel their mentor. Strange world isn’t it.

There are 2 things that I really like about this very short clip (bear in mind the actual ‘spar’ went on for around 10 minutes):

  1. The sneaky shots that Andrew plants on some of the kids. Proper funny 🙂
  2. A few of the kids looking to maintain their technical discipline during this melee, whilst others simply wade in looking to clobber Andrew with everything including the kitchen sink!

Enjoy, and my warmest best wishes to you for Christmas and the New Year.

Cheers

Fran

Not sure if many people not from Liverpool will quite appreciate the Our Day Out bit but it made me laugh.

    Happy Christmas Fran

Hahaha. You need to be a Scouser AND of a certain vintage to get that one John!

Glad it was a giggle for you, it was even funnier during gym time.

      Merry Christmas mate.

I’ll check in the week for you Charlie, but I think it’s about 14ft x 14ft. It’s quite a bit smaller than our main ring but it very much does the job.

Hi Fran, thanks for the Xmas wishes, good to see these kids having fun in the Ring. There’s me just turned age 71 only 45 minutes ago, and I started going to the Boxing Clubs, when I was only age 8, just like some of them I suppose. And I am still working out at the Boxing Gyms. I probably have the fastest hands, smartest action on the speed ball, and slickest feet in Shadow Boxing. For over 70 year old’s. Any takers? But I won’t say too much about my sparring as I am usually on my knees gasping for air after 30 seconds. I hope these kids benefit from the Boxing training and gym culture as I have. All the best to everyone, Alexander, big heid um a no! Well its my Birthday

    • Fran December 22, 2013, 8:31 pm

      Hey Alexander

Many happy returns on your birthday! I’m sure the memories of being that wee man walking into the gym are very fresh in the mind. To still be walking the walk all these years later is testimony to you and indeed the sport that helped mould you.

Thanks for the comment Alex. Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas and a Happy Hogmanay 🙂
