Hey Fran! Long-time viewer and beginner -> intermediate boxer. I love your boxer analyses of your favourite boxers. I know you’re a huge fan of Terence Crawford and I was wondering if there were any plans for a full analysis of his style anytime soon? I’d also like to ask how you would best improve the smoothness of your footwork and agility – I’m very stiff and slow and I find slipping inside and rolls to be particularly hard to pull-off correctly in sparring (southpaw).
Thank you so much,
James
Hello James
Thank you for your message, I appreciate you taking the time.
Massive fan of Crawford myself, class act. I did an analysis of hime a good few years ago, but it may be worth revisiting and picking up on some of his final fights – brilliance personified. Here’s the link to the existing one in case you’ve not seen it – https://www.myboxingcoach.com/terence-crawford-5-fearsome-factors/
The smoothness question. So there’s a couple of things here. First, there’s nothing wrong with ‘slow’. Balance is most important, you want your feet to be a good ‘gun platform’, providing stability to let shots go and do the defensive stuff. Keep the hands relaxed in the guard position and do your basic drills. Second, with slips and rolls the most effective advice I find that I give in the boxing club is it’s all about the legs. Focus 100% on the legs, that;s where all the action is. The top half will do as it’s told by the legs. Dedicate specific drill time in your training, 3 rounds on rolls and slips for example, in front of a mirror if you have one. Over time, things will get better.
Hope all that helps James.
Great video Fran. Well put across thankyou. Lee
Thanks Lee, really appreciate that mate 🥊
