Super Tough Boxing Workout at Home

Boxing workouts. 3 minute rounds right? Not necessarily, you can mix things up. In this boxing workout we go with 2 minute rounds, but if you’re expecting it to be easy you would be wrong. I reckon this is one of the toughest sub-30 minute boxing workouts you can do.

Why So Tough?

So the basic workout structure is:

  • 8 minute warm up
  • 4 x 2 minute rounds shadow boxing
  • 4 x 2 minute rounds heavy bag

There are a few reasons why this boxing workout is tough:

  • In between rounds you only get 30 seconds rather than the 60 seconds that we are all used to in boxing rounds
  • In between activities you only get 1 minute – no standing around
  • Match the minimum number of punches to the round you are in. In round 1 you throw single punches, in round 2 you throw no less than 2 punches, round 3 it’s 3 punches and in round 4 we throw 4 punches

So, the workload increases throughout the workout and the constrained rest period heaps the pressure on.

How to survive the workout

The key to getting through this workout is breathing. Learn active recovery during the round, so breath effectively. During the rest period, maximise oxygen intake with deep, controlled breathing.

It’s intense, but I think really enjoyable.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Fran

    Hi Fran
This is a banger. Good workout. The 4th round was hard and not easy to do 4 strikes with good quality and form. But it challenge to be creative. I will do this more.

    Cheers

Great feedback that Kaj. Thanks very much. Yes, maintaining the technical discipline and keeping the brain going as you tire is a big part of it.

      Thanks again Kaj 🥊

Sir, I did the complete workout. Very good. I really liked the shadow boxing and bag work sections. Then I added more techniques. knees, kicks, elbows which really wore me out. It is a great workout. I feel it. I played your 30 minute tape each time I worked out. I believe I have done the workout 5 times now and it is a keeper. Next time I will use my weighted gloves. Great job. Very instructive. Yours in martial arts,,, Owen

      Thanks Owen

I really like that, bringing techniques from your other fight disciplines into the session and still maintaining the conditions. Brilliant!

      Thanks again Owen

Boy that looks tough. That warmup is intense! I’ve been working with 30 sec rest between rounds for a little while now, and it is very hard, but it’s great for conditioning and endurance. I will try this workout this week and leave another comment here once I do it! Thanks, Fran!

      Thanks Raphael

Yes, the warmup caught me out a little in the days following – I’d clearly not been working my calves enough!

Glad you like it, look forward to hearing how you go on 🥊

I did the workout yesterday! I loved it and will definitely do it again sometime. For me, the most intense part was the warmup itself, I was able to manage the shadow boxing and heavy bag rounds quite well. Thanks again, Fran, and keep the good stuff coming! 🙂
