Boxing Footwork by the Great Cuban!

Guillermo Rigondeaux – A Cuban Genius!

Just wanted to pop up a quick post on my favorite amateur of the recent era, Guillermo Rigondeaux, one of the all time great Cuban boxers.  Couple of points:

  1. Sublime footwork.  Moves from the edge of range to long range with ease, doing so with devastatingly fast hand speed (check out the article on range finding).
  2. Always looking to capitalize on the opponent missing.  Make him miss, make him pay…counter punching at it’s very best!
  3. He gets off to a super fast start, gaining the early points advantage and never looking like he was going to lose it. He hammers home big shots early on, stamping his authority on the opponent. The ultimate in ‘Shock and Awe’.

Remember my article on the footwork drill (tag boxing).  This boxer demonstrates the end goal of that type of drill.  Maybe if I practice for the next 100 years…

Guillermo Rigondeaux

Cheers
