3 Punches That Catch Them Off Guard EXPLAINED

I’ve always been interested in the way you can make small changes to punches and change their impact in a big way. In this video we take a simple boxing combination, the jab, straight and lead hand hook, and make a small change to each of the individual punches. This makes a cool way to have a big change on the impact of your boxing combinations.

At it’s core, the Jab, straight back hand and lead look is a simple and very effective boxing combination.

The thing is, you can make some small changes to each of the punches in the combination and really change the dynamic of what’s going on.

The jab for instance.

I reckon there are 7 variations on you can apply when using the jab.

With the combination in the video, I use the delayed arrival and the stretch stance, and it really does give the start of the combination a really different feel.

Similarly with the back hand. People get caught up in the argument between cross and straight. I think it’s all about the point in the rotation that you let the arm go.

Finally, there’s the wonderful lead hand hook, or the left hook to be orthodox-specific.

The old argument about the left hook being delivered palm down or palm in, well we cover in there too.

A big message I want you to get in this video is to understand the variations, recognise that there’s always learning to be done.

Try each day to go to bed a little wiser that when you woke up, that way you can only get better.

Would love to hear your thoughts below.

Cheers

Sir YOU have a fast jab and GOOD power. I watched this video twice. Very informative. I like throwing a lead jab and spin my fist into a front backfist followed by the haymaker. My favorite is the jab, then a quick hook to turn his head and hit him with a haymaker. I guess that is a glove hook. Not as powerful, but I just need his head turned for a second before I deliver the Pizza. I think you are a man to step aside for. Yours in health,,, Owen
