A Coach-Along Boxing Drill for Slipping Punches

In the previous video that I posted, we worked through the benefits of combining the skills of slipping, movement and punching.

If you haven’t watched that video yet, to get the most out of this video you really need to. Otherwise you’ll just think that I’m a bit of a crackpot who needs some psychiatric intervention.

In this video I work you through the boxing drills that will help you build those skills.

A Boxing Drill to Get Better at Slipping Punches

No-one becomes Muhammad Ali overnight, not even Muhammad Ali.

Get the basics right, they will serve you well.

This is a boxing coach-along video, the first I’ve done on YouTube.

I do a lot of this stuff with my online clients, and we do lots of this stuff with the boxers in the gym.

These boxing drills do work. They build technical discipline, muscle memory, patterns to instil that will just happen, almost as instinct.

We will do 3 rounds of 2 minutes each round with a 30 second rest period. and I’ll talk you through each round and that will hopefully enable you to make continual adjustments to what you are doing.

Round 1

Slip Inside
Slip Outside
Move Forward
Slip Outside
Slip Inside
Move Backwards

Round 2

Move forward and Slip Inside
Move Backwards and Slip Outside
Slip Outside and Move Forward
Slip Inside and Move Backwards

Round 3

Move Forward and Slip Inside with the Lead Hand Hook
Move Backwards and Slip Outside with the Back Hand
Slip Outside and Move Forward with the Back Hand
Slip Inside and Move Backwards with the Lead Hand Hook

So there you have it, a simply constructed set of boxing drills that will, if executed with precision and discipline, help you get better at boxing skills.

Cheers

Fran

Slipping punches. Instead of slipping to the side, you should be slipping forward like taking a bow. just barely having your opponents punches just barely missing over your left/right shoulder. Now you are in position to counter. In close so you dont have to reach. Elbows close to your body. and suttle weight changes.
