Boxing Footwork – 5 Things to Know and Try

In this video you are going to learn some very simple principles about your boxing footwork and your boxing stance.

However, when considered in the right way, these principles will allow you to be adventurous and versatile when making the trade-off between power-based fighting and being mobility based fighting.

There are 5 things that we cover about the boxing stance:

  1. The relative position of your feet
  2. The angle of the front foot
  3. The posture of the front foot (up or flat)
  4. The posture of the rear foot (up or flat)
  5. The angle of the rear foot.

Two of these things are absolute, in my opinion non-negotiable, if you want to maximise the effectiveness of your boxing footwork.

The other three of these things give you the ability to vary your stance depending upon the type of boxing style that you want to adopt.

And bear in mind, versatility is a huge advantage to the boxer, and that versatility can show itself by change style from minute-to-minute and even second-to-second.

So, think about these five boxing footwork things. Experiment and try out new configurations to see how things feel and what they do for you.

Cheers

Fran

Thanks Dunstan. Yes, my wife and I will be going to watch at the weekend. The only boxing movies that I watch are those that are based on real-life. The Fighter, Cinderella Man, Ali (and of course Raging Bull). So, looking forward to it…thanks for the recommendation pal 👍

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: there are instructors and there are teachers. You, sir, are a teacher. Respect, Fran.

thank you for the clip Fran and the message at the end. you are a good man Fran Sands. I took some well needed inspiration for your directive to use this time under isolation due to the virus to work hard at some thing, to be better coming out of this than when we went in. It is well noted that the last thing to leave a fighter is his punch. I will follow your lead and keep punching. God bless Fran.

      Hi Drew

Thanks you, I’m really glad that the message resonates. I think a lot of us know it, but we need to be reminded occasionally and in this instance it was simply that I had reminded myself after what was quite a difficult week. So, happy that you enjoyed this one. As you say, keep on punching👍

G/day Fran,Just sitting here looking at your latest clip mate. We’ve got rain today so will look at it again during the day after doing some work related stuff. It’s great to see that you are still about mate, and working around all the constraints successfully.Been in a rural area,we haven’t had the same problems although the attendance by kids at the local Pcyc is way down on what it was.Hurry on 2021.Love the clips Fran.I don’t always comment on them, but always have a good look. All the best to you and yours mate.Regards Terry.

      Hello Pal

Nice to hear from you Terry, glad to hear things are well. Unfortunately I’ve just had to cancel flights out to Oz that I had booked in December, visiting my sister-in-law in Sydney and then a journey up to Port Douglas. So much for that. As you say, maybe next year eh mate. Look after yourself pal
