Aggressive and Defensive Boxing Training – Lesson #1

This is the first in a series of boxing training videos, incorporating some cool boxing drills, that will help you build your aggressive and defensive boxing skills.

In this first boxing training video we go through what I see as the 4 aspects of defensive boxing and the 5 aspects of aggressive boxing. In the next video we will build a series of boxing drills based upon the concepts we cover in this boxing training video.

Aggressive and Defensive Boxing Training Masterclass

This is about helping you become versatile in your boxing training, to make your sessions interesting and challenging.

Defensive boxing is about using a good rear guard action, a fighting retreat. It’s about exacting a price for any ground that the opponent takes.

It is not about running away.

The 4 aspects of defensive boxing that I cover are:

  1. Occupy the edge of range
  2. Use triggers
  3. Use a killer jab
  4. Get comfortable with front foot pivots

Aggressive boxing is quite different. The aggression needs to be controlled, so we don’t go wild.

We aim to overwhelm the opponent’s defences, to overwhelm their mind with intensity and work rate.

We should never forget though that aggressive boxing carries with it greater risk of taking incoming shots, but, fortune favours the bold!

My 5 aspects of aggressive boxing:

  1. Be dynamic – occupy the edge of range
  2. Use proactive defence
  3. Volume and intensity
  4. Rear foot pivot and lateral movement
  5. Be inventive at close range.

So this boxing training video, and the next one on boxing drills, will provide you with a great way of giving your boxing training sessions purpose and direction.

Cheers

Fran
