Boxing Footwork Drills – 3 Ways to Cross the Centreline

The centreline is a really important concept in boxing. Leaving your head on the centreline makes you predictable, and that makes you vulnerable. These boxing footwork drills give you 3 ways to cut across the centreline.

Boxing Footwork Drills – 3 Ways to Cross the Centreline

The 3 boxing footwork drills are as follows:

  1. The simple side step
  2. Side step combined with a duck
  3. The slip followed by a duck and a side step.

As with all boxing footwork drills, take it slow and steady. Work the patterns with discipline and precision. This is all about keeping your body under good control.

    Hi Fran.
I’m enjoying your lessons. I’ve just downloaded your book and look forward to following the advice. I’ve been doing a 1-2-1 with a great coach for a few months now, and really want to step up the pace.
I would love to get my hands on one of them there footwork mats, but the link to Gorilla is no longer active. I’ve tried buying from them, but they don’t have any sales points, just promotion video, which is odd.
Anyway, if they’re out of business, could you recommend any other retailers? I’ve searched, but ain’t come up with owt.

      Hi William

Very glad to have you here.

Yes, Drill Gorilla stopped producing a little while ago. A real shame as it’s a great product. I would love them to start up again as I always felt very comfortable promoting their mat. Who knows, maybe they’ll spin up again, if they do I’ll let people know for sure.

Thanks for the great video Fran. Very essential to not stay on the center line too long, and thanks for teaching us the importance of combining skills. Cheers!

Great video Fran. I also like to do drills combining a duck and a pivot. And a roll and a pivot too.
